Exotiska växter i Skandinavien

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Have been on vacation in the
north of Norway (Lofoten) I wish we could have such "tropical" beaches
here in Bergen. Have you ever seen such a beautiful place. To bad the
water temp is low.

Regarding the Musa Basjoo it needs protection, at least if you are going
to remain some of the trunk. I have used a box of styrofoam filled with
dry leafs but this year I will try to use straw inside a box of chickenwire.
It's always a challenge when you grow exotics.
My garden/home is located in a valley and during summer it's a few dregrees
warmer and maybe a few degrees colder during winter if you compare with
people living near the sea. Most of my garden is in a slope with huge pine
trees on the top. The slope is VERY dry and during summer (believe it or not)
I need to water a lot. I do grow Cordyline, Humilis, Trachy, Eucalyptus,
various yucca, etc, without any protection and other plants will have rainshelter.
The cold is not really a problem but of course the combination
of rain, cold could be a challenge. Have only lost two palms previously and
that was to rot (protection to tight). But as we all know, plants may die for
unknown reason so in my opinion it's important to give them some extra care
during the first 2-3 years until they are settled.
The wind is also no problem in my garden.
