Silver Dollar Gum - Eucalyptus polyanthemos - Red Box (New South Wales, Victoria) Although not very hardy, this species is worth mentioning because of its frequent use in the floral industry. The juvenile leaves are elliptical, somewhat wider than they are long, but are not stem-clasping--rather, they hang semi-pendulously from short petioles. Adult leaves are slightly longer but not much different. This species probably cannot be expected to reach tree size outside of zone 9, but it still makes an excellent cut foliage plant in colder areas, where it will freeze to the ground periodically. 14 - 18°F.
